Approaching healthier conversations

Posted on: 19 May 2023

Around 50 healthcare professionals joined a fully subscribed event in Leeds on 17 May aimed at tackling difficult and sensitive conversations with patients around obesity and being overweight - something which research locally has shown that practitioners struggle with.

Dr Ramla Aziz.jpgThe event, facilitated by Dr Ramla Aziz, Population Health Fellow (pictured) looked at weight management services in West Yorkshire, referral pathways and what a compassionate and trauma informed approach to obesity looks like. Interactive sessions included simulated consultations with actors which provided the opportunity to put better conversations around weight management into practice.

A range of professions attended including nurses, dietitians, psychologists, community health champions, GPs, healthcare assistants, weight management service practitioners, public health colleagues and more.

Thank you to the Partnership, Health Education England, Obesity UK and Leeds Health and Care Academy for supporting the event and to everyone who attended. For more information or to find out about similar training opportunities in the future, please contact Dr Ramla Aziz, ramla.aziz@doctors.org.uk.
