The Art House sanctuary event.pngPartnership colleagues joined other friends of The Art House in Wakefield at a special evening to celebrate its second National City of Sanctuary Award.

Holding Gallery of Sanctuary status is in addition to being the UK’s first Studio of Sanctuary.

The event celebrated the vibrant, diverse and cross-cultural community as a result of six years of The Art House’s commitment and support of creatives and communities seeking asylum in the UK. There was a retrospective of work by Studio of Sanctuary artists and community members - and the opportunity to meet them, as well as live music and an out-of-hours tour of a new exhibition, in.visible, by Ryoko Akama.

Simon Lightwood MP sent a video message acknowledging the crucial work to provide welcoming services and Lord Victor Adebowale, who hails from Wakefield, was announced as The Art House’s first Honorary Patron. Hear what Lord Adebowale has to say in this short snippet recorded at the event.
