People most at risk of serious illness from COVID‑19 are being urged to come forward for their vaccination now, with just one month left before the Spring programme ends across West Yorkshire.
COVID‑19 continues to circulate throughout the year and can still lead to serious illness, particularly for older people and those with weakened immune systems. Protection from previous vaccinations or infection can reduce over time, so topping up your protection now can help you stay well and avoid more serious outcomes.
Following advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), the NHS is offering the COVID‑19 vaccine this spring to those at highest risk of severe disease, including:
- adults aged 75 years and over (including those who turn 75 by 30 June 2026)
- residents in care homes for older adults
- people aged 6 months and over with a weakened immune system
With the programme ending on 30 June 2026, eligible people are being encouraged to act now and not leave it too late to book.
Appointments are available at GP practices, community pharmacies and walk‑in sites, making it quick and convenient to get vaccinated. You do not need to wait for an invitation to book.
Dr James Thomas, Medical Director at NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, said:
“COVID‑19 is not just a winter illness, and protection can fade over time. With only one month left in the spring programme, now is the time to come forward and get protected.
“We know that COVID‑19 can still be very serious for older people and those with weakened immune systems, but the vaccine offers strong protection against severe illness and hospitalisation.
“If you are eligible, please don’t miss this opportunity – booking an appointment is quick and easy, and it could make a real difference to your health. You do not need to wait for an invite – you can book online, through the NHS App or by calling 119 today.”
UK Health Security Agency data from the Spring 2025 COVID‑19 vaccination programme showed that people who received a COVID‑19 vaccine were around 50% less likely to be admitted to hospital with the virus.
Eligible people can book a vaccination appointment:
