Meet the Supplier: Falls Detection and Prevention Technologies event  - 24 January 2023

West Yorkshire has embarked on a 3 year Digitising Social Care Programme with an overarching aim of increasing digitisation within adult social care by supporting the adoption of care technologies that will enhance quality, safety, and efficiency. With funds made available via the Digitising Social Care Team in the NHS Transformation Directorate, West Yorkshire is in its first year of the programme.

A ‘place based’ approach has been chosen to support adult social care providers to access available funding to procure and implement digital social care records to ensure data is captured at the point of care and can be shared between care settings. Available funds will support all CQC registered adult social care providers.

In addition to the adoption of digital social care records, funding is available to West Yorkshire providers of nursing and residential homes to adopt falls prevention and detection technologies.  Falls are the most common cause of emergency hospital admission. People living in care homes are 3 times more likely to fall than those living at home. This group is also especially vulnerable to the impact of falls.

Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership, in collaboration with the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership, hosted a ‘Meet the Supplier: Falls Detection and Prevention Technologies Event’ on the 24 January 2023.  This event provided an opportunity for adult social care providers to meet with a selection of suppliers of innovative technologies designed to detect and prevent falls.  This event served as an introductory/taster session to provide awareness of the range of solutions on the market to detect and/or prevent falls.

It was beneficial to discuss the topic of falls and explore this key area of innovation in adult social care. With consent, the event was recorded to enable wider sharing with care providers who were not able to join the event on the day.
