This activity is part of Healthy Working Life, a joint programme from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, focused on helping people stay healthy, well and in work.
The TSL Kirklees Wellness Works initiative supports people whose health is affecting their ability to work or stay in work. Providing personalised one-to-one support and local wellbeing activities helps people build confidence, improve health and wellbeing while taking positive steps towards work, training or volunteering.
Working with a network of community-based health hubs and keyworker organisations colleagues provide flexible, local support to meet each person’s needs. Support includes:
- helping people manage health and wellbeing barriers that make work or daily life difficult
- building confidence, motivation and structure through regular contact with a keyworker
- linking people to volunteering, training or work opportunities when ready
- connecting people to local groups, activities and services that support recovery and community connection
- providing short-term help to remove barriers such as transport, digital access or essential items through the Breaking Barriers Fund
- offering volunteering routes for people to rebuild skills, confidence and purpose
Wellness Works is led by TSL Kirklees, in partnership with trusted community organisations and health partners across the four areas of Kirklees. It’s aimed at people aged 18 to 64 in Kirklees who are at risk of leaving work due to a health condition or disability or who have become unemployed, out of work or inactive due to health issues and want to take steps towards work, training or volunteering.
One participant shares how she has renewed hope: “I can actually do things for myself.”
“Everyone deserves a chance to get where they want to get.”
