VCSE Power: Kirklees

Cost of living support Kirklees Council

Mondays at the Museum

The Vision: Museums have potential for increasing well-being. They are social, safe spaces, where sharing stories and experiences across generations and cultures can take place. Our local museums bear witness to the landscape and industry and the struggles which have shaped the Kirklees we have today. The idea was to use the museum spaces to start conversations around well-being and to provide complementary activities to increase the well-being potential. It was also an opportunity to invite in members of the community who have never considered the museum as beneficial to their well-being or indeed as a space that was for them. We have embraced the Kirklees Council objectives through this project particularly those that focus on thriving communities, people feeling safe, people enjoying better health and staying active, and being inclusive. We would like to make this an inspiring experience and to promote opportunities for lifelong learning as we develop further.

Health Your Way Case Study: Eat Well, Move More

TSL Kirklees and its Community Anchor Network is co-ordinating and facilitating a variety of Health Your Way programmes across Kirklees. These are community non-medical responses to PCN priorities in partnership with local community venues and community groups.

New co-produced locally-based programmes like Eat Well, Move More aim to increase social prescribing referrals into community activities and support local health priorities in Kirklees. They also aim to increase awareness, communications and engagement between PCNs and the local voluntary and community centre.

Eat Well, Move More started in North Kirklees and was designed in partnership with health colleagues, TSL Kirklees Community Anchors, local community groups and community spaces to address GPs concerns about rates of diabetes and obesity. It has had great results and is now being run in a number of areas throughout the district. People who aren't responding to traditional treatments and methods can be referred to Eat Well Move More and take part in a 12-week programme in a relaxed, informal, local setting, supported by Social Prescribing Link Workers.

Health Your Way Case Study: Bud – Growing at Tolson

TSL Kirklees and its Community Anchor Network is co-ordinating and facilitating a variety of Health Your Way programmes across Kirklees. These are community non-medical responses to PCN priorities in partnership with local community venues and community groups.

New co-produced locally-based programmes like Bud: Growing at Tolson aim to increase social prescribing referrals into community activities and support local health priorities in Kirklees. They also aim to increase awareness, communications and engagement between PCNs and the local voluntary and community centre.

Bud: Growing at Tolson, allowed established local charity, Growing Works to have a visible presence in a much-loved local park in Huddersfield (Ravensknowle Park) and be part of a bigger initiative (Mondays at the Museum), bringing together local voluntary and community groups and activities with health colleagues within a well-known local landmark (Tolson Museum). The programme allows people to try new activities, connect with local groups, meet social prescribers and get health checks and advice in one place at the heart of their community. It was designed in partnership with health colleagues, TSL Kirklees Community Anchors, local community groups and Kirklees Museums to address GPs concerns about rates of depression, diabetes and child obesity, with great results.
