Colleagues from across our Cancer Alliance met earlier this week to look at how the effectiveness of multidisciplinary team (MDTs) meetings in cancer services can be improved. MDTs are considered the ‘gold standard’ for cancer patient management, bringing continuity of care and reducing variation in access to treatment.

Rose Gray, Senior Policy Adviser at Cancer Research UK, attended to present the findings of the charity’s research which confirms the challenges facing MDTs and recommends a number of actions to be taken. Alliance colleagues then discussed how these could be tackled at West Yorkshire and Harrogate level to improve outcomes for patients. An action plan will now be developed through the Alliance High Quality Services Group, chaired by Phil Wood, Clinical Director for Oncology at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
