Posted on: 17 September 2019

NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care have recently announced the new community-based clinics to support non-pregnant women who have undergone Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and Leeds has been chosen to host the clinic for the North of England. This will be called the Blossom clinic, and will provide physical, emotional and advocacy support for any adult who lives in England and has suffered from FGM.The service will be delivered by midwives from Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, working alongside Touchstone who will provide mental health support and advocacy to those women attending the clinic. Women will be invited to discuss their health needs in a sensitive and non-judgmental environment. This is a fast-track service where women can self-refer, but referrals from GPs and other health professional are strongly encouraged. Referral can be made from GPs and health professionals or self-referrals by emailing leedsth-tr.blossomclinic.fgm@nhs.net or calling 07824 580 988. The success of the project, which will run for two years, will rest upon the outcomes measured at each of the sites in promoting health and wellbeing.
