Kirklees CCGs to merge on 1 April 2021
Two clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) in Kirklees are set to merge later this week and become a new statutory body.
NHS Kirklees CCG will be formally established on Thursday 1 April.
NHS Greater Huddersfield and NHS North Kirklees CCGs have been working closely together for a number of years, supported by a single management team and chief officer. Creating a single voice for the NHS in Kirklees is the next step in their journey.
Dr Khalid Naeem, a GP and partner at Mount Pleasant Medical Centre in Batley, has been appointed as Clinical Chair of the new organisation. He said, "I'm delighted to be taking on the role of Clinical Chair of NHS Kirklees CCG. Although our two local CCGs have worked together for a number of years, the creation of a single NHS commissioning organisation for Kirklees marks a significant milestone.
"Over the coming year we will remain committed to maintaining our roots in local communities and working closely and in partnership with primary care networks, GP practices, Kirklees Council, health and care providers and other partners."
NHS Kirklees CCG will serve a registered population of around 440,000 people and have a membership of 64 GP practices. The new organisation will keep its headquarters in Huddersfield town centre and, once the current restrictions are lifted, continue to hold public and other meetings across Kirklees.
The creation of a single CCG for Kirklees won’t result in changes to local NHS services or impact directly on patients, their families or carers.
Dr Razwan Ali has been confirmed as Clinical Vice-Chair of the new CCG. Dr Ali is a GP and partner at the Junction Surgery in Moldgreen. He has been a member of NHS Greater Huddersfield CCG Governing Body since 2016.
Dr Steve Ollerton is stepping down as Clinical Chair of NHS Greater Huddersfield CCG, a post he has held since 2013. He will become a GP member of the new Governing Body.
Carol McKenna has been appointed Chief Officer of the new CCG.
The two Kirklees CCGs engaged with stakeholders, partners and the public as part of a process to help shape the new organisation. The full engagement report of findings will be available on the CCG website.
