  • Staff Engagement
  • Connecting Services and Information Award
  • System Led Carers Support
  • NHS Race Equality

The awards recognise outstanding contribution to healthcare – in what has been an exceptional and challenging period across the sector.

Despite the demanding circumstances of the past 18 months, over 1,000 entries were received for this year’s HSJ Awards, with 205 organisations, projects and people making it to the final shortlist.

The judging panel was made up of a diverse range of highly influential and respected figures within the healthcare community, including Sir Bruce Keogh (Chair, Birmingham Women’s, and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust); Marie Gabriel CBE (Chair, NHS Race and Health Observatory); and former HSJ Trust of the Year winners Ann Marr OBE (Chief Executive, St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals Trust) and Richard Mitchell (Chief Executive, Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust).

Following the intense and in-depth judging process, WY&H HCP was shortlisted, ahead of the official awards ceremony to be held later this year (18 November). Standing out amongst tough competition from hundreds of other exemplary applicants. WY&H HCP was selected for Integrated Care System of the Year based on its collective ambition, and the demonstrable positive impact made on people’s lives when organisations across all sectors come together. This strength provides greater opportunities to deliver WY&H HCP Five Year Plan ambitions, ensuring that all people are given the best start in life, can remain healthy and age well.

Up for Staff Engagement Award of the Year, WY&H HCP has engaged its far reaching workforce on race equality, including an independent review in July 2020 into the impact of COVID-19 on health inequalities and support needed for minority ethnic communities and colleagues; a fellowship programme, campaigns and ‘Can you hear me’ podcasts, to name a few.

The Partnership has also been shortlisted for NHS Race Equality Award for its extensive work on tackling health inequalities. This has including establishing a Health Inequalities Academy, bringing together a network of colleagues, including the Race Equality Network, and implementing review findings from its race review carried out in October 2020.

WY&H HCP has also been shortlisted for Connecting Services and Information Award as well as a System Led Carers Support award for its work to support take up of vaccine for unpaid carers, which identified a further 53,000 unpaid carers unknown to health and care services.

Rob Webster CBE, CEO for WY&H HCP (pictured above) said:
"I am delighted to see that we have been shortlisted for these awards. They are a recognition of the way our partnership works and the difference we are making to local people on things that matter – like staffing, working carers and race equality."

Within WY&H HCP, many organisations have also been shortlisted for a range of awards, including the Airedale Digital Care Hub which has become an invaluable resource to Bradford District and Craven (BDC) Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) for Digitising Patient Services Initiative. Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has been short-listed for three awards including for Patient Safety and Acute Sector Innovation of the Year. Congratulations also to Leeds Shielding Support Programme who have been shortlisted for the Partnership with Local Government Award; and to Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust who has been shortlisted for the Environmental Sustainability Award.
Leeds Children's Hospital and DigiBete CIC, DigiBete Diabetes App for Children and Young People have aso been shortlisted. Congratulations also to Op Courage High Intensity Service North which has been shortlisted in the Military and Civilian Partnership Health Partnership Category.
