We know that being diagnosed and living with type 2 diabetes at a young age can be overwhelming, and considering how busy life can be, we know that it can be challenging to prioritise your diabetes care. However, being diagnosed with diabetes at a younger age increases the likelihood of developing complications with your vision, movement, life expectancy and ability to have a family. With the right treatment, support and self management, the chances of these complications can be reduced. Having an annual diabetes review with your usual diabetes healthcare professional at your general practice (GP) is important to help reduce your risk of developing complications associated with younger onset diabetes.

Early Onset Type 2 Diabetes
An Early Onset Type Two Diabetes (EOT2D) insights piece was undertaken by Insights research agency, commissioned by DUK and NHS England’s Diabetes Programme. It involved focused groups to collect experiences of treatment and care from the EOT2 population with findings analysed and summarised in themes.
See below for a 2-page summary handout for GPs and the full findings in the slides.
