About the project
Wakefield is one of only seven places in England and the only one across the North East and Yorkshire to be chosen to set up a Women’s Health Centre of Excellence.
For women across the Wakefield district, it will mean expert menopause and urogynaecology care brought closer to home, with more time to talk things through, clear information and the support of others going through something similar. An element of this is the development of group clinics which will be led by a GP or clinician with specialist training in women’s health. These appointments will combine expert advice, education and peer support, giving women the opportunity to learn from specialists, ask questions and hear from others facing similar experiences.
Our partnership approach
This is a proud moment and an important one for women who live in the district. Conexus will lead the set up and delivery of the programme. Partnership working including 34 GP practices, hospital colleagues at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, partners at South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and community organisations including Live Well Wakefield and EvergreenActive has been crucial.
A key strength of the Wakefield model is the ability to deliver clinics and services at scale across all neighbourhoods. Work is happening across the Wakefield district to develop neighbourhood health teams and the Centre of Excellence will sit firmly at the heart of these. Conexus already provides the enhanced GP Care Wakefield access service for GP practices. This is delivered out of community sites and the women’s health clinics will be developed using a similar framework.
