Healthier homes for healthier children - safety at home
Description of project
Children living in West Yorkshire are more likely to be admitted to hospital due to unintentional and deliberate injuries than the England average. Almost half of all childhood accidents are associated with physical conditions within the home, and accidents are more common in more deprived living conditions.
This project would be part of the Healthier Homes for Healthier Children workstream within the Improving Population Health Programme. It would fit with one of the core ambitions of the Partnership’s 5-year plan to address the health inequality gap for children living in households with the lowest incomes.
The Health Equity Fellow will lead a project that considers how the partnership can promote safety within the home and reduce these admissions and take action to address this. It may include (but is not limited to):
- identifying current national and local strategies to promote safety within the home
- sharing of good practice of what is working well in different areas
- working with partners across the system to promote safety within the home. This might include:
- creating resources to promote safety
- running a campaign
- creating educational resources
- working with schools
- training health and allied professionals to have brief conversations that promote safety in the home
Target population group
Children aged between 0 and 14 years living in West Yorkshire.
How will success be measured?
- Relevant national and local strategies identified
- Examples of good practice shared across networks
- Successful completion of activities that promote safety in the home
