West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnerships (WY&H HCP) urgent and emergency care nursing associate apprenticeship in partnership with the University of Huddersfield has secured an additional £64,000 after securing over £100,000 from Health Education England in April 2020.
The funding from WY&H HCP Workforce Partnership Board will assist smaller employers, particularly those from social care, hospices and primary care with financial support to overcome what otherwise may have been a barrier to them releasing staff to undertake an apprenticeship due to the time away from their workplace.
Employers have until the 31 August to express an interest in any of their employees joining the innovative apprenticeship programme and can do this by contacting the WY&H HCP Workforce Transformation Lead, Kirsty.
The latest instalment of the NHS People Plan; states the need to support people to have a lifelong career within health and social care by making it a more attractive place to work all of which this initiative supports.
This programme is beneficial to both employers and staff and keeps people’s health, wellbeing and experiences of care at the centre of all it does.
Pat Keane, Programme Director at NHS Wakefield Clinical Commissioning Group and WY&H H&CP Urgent and Emergency Care Programme, Joint Senior Responsible Officer said ‘There is a clear need to increase apprenticeships to promote sustainable growth of the workforce and enable better joined up health and social care for people requiring urgent or emergency care and treatment. In a health and care world still feeling the effects of a global pandemic, we hope that the extra funds made available will reassure and strongly encourage local employers to put their staff forward for this unique opportunity’.
Brendan Brown, CEO for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and CEO lead for the WY&H HCP Workforce Programme said ‘Giving staff training and development opportunities is essential if we are to support people to have a career in health and social care. The urgent and emergency care nursing associate apprenticeship programme will enable our people in West Yorkshire and Harrogate, who otherwise may not have had the chance to access formal training, an opportunity to develop their career; learn new skills, gain valuable experience and continue to play a vital role in our partnership’.
Recruitment to the programme will take place from 1 September to 9 October, 2020. Throughout August there will be virtual ‘drop in sessions’ where Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered employers can find out more about the urgent and emergency care nursing associate apprenticeship.
