The sudden and unexpected death of an infant (SUDI) is one of the most devastating tragedies that can happen to any family. At least 300 infants still die suddenly and unexpectedly each year in England and Wales.
‘Every Sleep a Safe Sleep’ was developed to upskill the multi-agency workforce with the knowledge required to effectively engage in individualised safer sleep conversations with parents and carers to reduce the risks of sudden unexpected death in infancy, in particular where additional vulnerabilities exist.
The training initially focussed on a train the trainer approach and is delivered at place across West Yorkshire and the Humber.
“I have gained knowledge and feel confident in being a facilitator and passing this information on,” said one trainer, with another saying: “I feel I will be able to support and educate families and professionals more effectively using the risk minimisation tool.”
We have now trained in excess of 2,000 multi-agency practitioners in SUDI prevention across West Yorkshire and the Humber. The training was nominated for, and reached the finals of the Nursing Times award.
