We also have a blog from Tim Brown, Operations Director for the NIHR Yorkshire and Humber Regional Research Delivery Network.

Tim has been the Operations Director for the NIHR Yorkshire and Humber Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN) since 2024. Tim has worked for the NIHR Research Delivery Network (formerly the Clinical Research Network) for over 15 years, providing strategic and transformation leadership including as part of the transition of the CRN to the RDN.
Hello, my name is Tim, and I’m part of the NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN) in Yorkshire and Humber.
It’s a privilege to provide leadership for NIHR-supported research delivery in the region, and I’m proud to see the impact of research on our communities every single day. Our research workforce is at the forefront of shaping new treatments and prevention and plays an integral role as part of our system.
As well as support through funding opportunities, the NIHR RDN offers free-to-access study support through our Agile Research Delivery Team. This is a skilled, multi-disciplinary team of nurses, AHPs and clinical research practitioners who can work flexibly to support research delivery in hospitals, primary care and wider care settings.
We’re delighted our team in Yorkshire and Humber is growing, including increased resource to support studies in West Yorkshire. This growth, combined with the expertise we offer in health and care research, benefits our communities and supports research capacity and capability locally.
What can the team offer?
- In collaboration with the site, the team can support the set-up of research studies.
- Help with the screening of potential participants.
- Receiving consent from participants.
- Recruitment and baseline visits.
- Follow-up activity.
- Sample processing.
- Data management.
Which settings can they support?
Our Agile Research Delivery Team supports research in traditional settings, such as hospitals and clinical sites. But a key aim of the NIHR Research Delivery Network is to ensure everyone across the country has the opportunity to take part in research that might be suitable for them. One way we do this is through delivering health and care research in places where people already access services.
We do this in:
- GP surgeries
- hospices
- care homes
- sheltered accommodation
- schools
- community hubs
- places of worship
- prisons
- participant’s homes
Our impact
The team makes a significant impact on studies across Yorkshire and Humber. To name just a few in West Yorkshire, we’ve supported screening for the ANCHOR trial, an influenza study trialling a preventative treatment for the virus. And we’ve helped recruit 2,000 participants at West Yorkshire GP practices to FIND-AF which showed that AI can use health records to identify patients at high risk of a common heart condition.
The team was also involved in recruiting participants to ALABAMA which last year found that nearly 9 out of 10 people in the UK who believe they have a penicillin allergy are actually not allergic. Funded by the NIHR, our Agile Research Delivery Team helped to recruit over 800 participants as part of the study team.
How can I access the team’s support for my study?

The NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN) is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), to enable the health and care system to attract, optimise and deliver research across England. The RDN supports health and care organisations across England to deliver research in hospitals, primary care and community and residential settings.
