Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Week (19–23 May 2025) is a powerful reminder of the ongoing work across the NHS to make our health and care system fairer, more inclusive, and more compassionate—for both patients and staff.
At NHS West Yorkshire ICB, we’re proud to support #EQW2025 by shining a light on the actions we take every day to embed equality into everything we do. One way we do this is through equality
impact assessments, a key tool that helps us make sure our decisions and policies support everyone, not just some.
Why do equality impact assessments matter?
They’re not just checkboxes. They:
- Promote fairness by identifying and removing barriers for all communities.
- Ensure legal compliance by meeting our public duty to consider equality in decision-making.
- Improve outcomes through inclusive, informed, and effective policy development.
- Reduce risk by identifying potential inequalities before they cause harm.
- Build trust by showing we’re committed to transparency and accountability.
- Reflect our values—diversity, inclusion, and equity aren't just buzzwords; they're central to who we are.
What #EQW2025 is all about
Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Week is about:
- Celebrating progress in equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) across the NHS.
- Sharing good practice that supports the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan and the EDI Improvement Plan.
- Improving experiences for all NHS staff—especially those from marginalised groups.
- Tackling inequalities head-on, in the workplace and beyond.
Let’s use #EQW2025 as a platform for learning, reflection, and action. Because building a truly inclusive NHS isn’t a one-week job—but it starts with conversations like these.
