  • Healthy Minds Calderdale
    Calderdale’s mental health charity runs a variety of services including support groups, workshops and courses for young people and adults. For more information visit the Healthy Minds Calderdale website or call 01422 345154
  • Vita Minds
    If you're suffering from depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, excessive worry or low mood, then VitaMinds can help. VitaMinds is a free service and you don’t need to visit a GP to get help. The fastest way to get support is by going to the VitaMinds website or by calling 0333 0153 494

MindWell is the mental health website for people in Leeds. It contains information on adult mental health and wellbeing support available in Leeds and how to access them.

Go to www.mindwell-leeds.org.uk for:

  • Local wellbeing groups including creative, outdoor and exercise groups.
  • Clear, accurate information about a range of common mental health problems such as anxiety and stress.
  • Self-help resources, including downloadable materials and videos.
  • Crisis support information for mental health emergencies.
  • Practical support for difficult life experiences, such as housing problems or money worries.
  • Support for carers and new parents.
  • Guidance for GPs, employers and anyone in a signposting role

Whether you’re looking for help for yourself or someone you live with or care for, www.mindwell-leeds.org.uk offers all the support, advice and information you might need. This includes self-help tools to cope with anxiety, stress and low moods.

 

NHS 111 mental health option

Call NHS 111 and select the ‘mental health’ option

People in need of urgent mental health support can call NHS 111 and select the mental health option.

This is a universal point of access for people of all ages experiencing mental health crisis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If you, or someone you’re worried about, needs urgent care or treatment for a mental health need dial NHS 111 and select the mental health option.

Calls will be answered by a team experienced and trained in delivering mental health crisis support who will listen to your concerns and help you get the support you need.

NHS 111 is not an emergency service. In a Mental Health emergency where there is an immediate threat to life, call 999.

 

Suicide Prevention West Yorkshire

Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service

The service is for anyone aged 17+ registered with a Leeds GP and provides support and psychological therapies for common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. The service also provides online therapy courses and self-management tools which are available at any time day and night to help with a wide range of issues including stress and anxiety, mindfulness, depression and bereavement. If you prefer talking therapies you can also refer yourself through the website – leedsmentalwellbeingservice.co.uk

 

Every Mind Matters

The NHS Every Mind Matters website also includes a wide range of resources to help with anxiety, low mood and stress. Audio guides and reading lists to help with stress and anxiety are also available at nhs.uk/conditions/stress-anxiety-depression

 

NHS talking therapies for anxiety and depression

Talking therapies, or psychological therapies, are effective and confidential treatments delivered by fully trained and accredited NHS practitioners. They can help if you’re struggling with things like feelings of depression, excessive worry, social anxiety or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

You can access talking therapies for free on the NHS.

You can refer yourself directly to an NHS talking therapies service without a referral from a GP, or a GP can refer you.

Help is available in person, by video, over the phone or as an online course.

Forward Leeds helps adults, young people, and their families with free and confidential alcohol and drug support.

 

Northern Gambling Service

Anyone worried about gambling can find support from the NHS Northern Gambling Service, which provides specialist addiction therapy and recovery to people affected by gambling addiction, as well as those with mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and suicidal feelings. They also provide help to people close to those with gambling addiction, such as family, partners, and carers.

 

Leeds Recovery College

Leedsrecoverycollege.com

The college delivers a range of education and training courses that have been specifically designed to increase awareness and understanding of mental health, wellbeing and personal recovery. The courses and workshops are free to attend and are open to any adults who live, work or study in Leeds (this includes service users, carers, staff and volunteers). Night OWLS

Call free 0800 1488244

The overnight service for children, young people and their families and carers. Open 8pm-8am every day. Call free 0800 1488244 (and 111), text 07984 392700 (charges may apply) or online chat at www.lslcs.org.uk/services/night-owls-helpline

During the day, children and young people in crisis should use NHS 111 mental health option. The answering service will direct them to the appropriate support.

 

Leeds CAMHS Crisis Call Line Team

0800 953 0505 (and 111)

Leeds CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) Crisis Call Line is a mental health helpline for people aged under 18 in Leeds, open every day from 8am to 8pm. This helpline is for young people who already access Leeds CAMHS and those who have not already been referred or used the service.

 

Crisis services

  • NHS 111 – people of all ages in West Yorkshire are able to access local crisis services directly by calling 111 and selecting the mental health option. The NHS 111 number is being rolled out across England as a universal point of access for people experiencing mental health crisis, ensuring that anyone can call NHS 111 for themselves or someone else and have 24/7 access to the mental health support they need in the community.
  •  
  • Connect – a survivor-led local helpline which offers emotional support and information to people in Leeds every night from 6pm-2am on 0808 800 1212. Connect also provides online support through instant chat for people – www.lslcs.org.uk. Connect specialises in working with people at risk of suicide and self-harm and those with complex mental health needs.

Anyone whose life is in immediate danger should call 999.
